Zacks

Calgon Carbon’s (CCC) fully owned subsidiary — Hyde Marine, Inc. — has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Singapore-based Keppel Shipyard and SEAQUEST Marine Systems PTE, Ltd., for the deployment of its chemical-free Hyde GUARDIAN Gold Ballast Water Treatment System (BWTS) in the international markets.

The agreement will give Keppel Shipyard the rights to carry out retrofit installations of Hyde GUARDIAN Gold BWTS at its Singapore shipyard and help Hyde Marine to expand its Asian retrofit market in conformity with the international ballast water treatment standards.

Hyde Marine strives to provide shipowners with the best BWTS. By leveraging the recent MOU with Keppel Shipyard and SEAQUEST, Hyde Marine will be able to complete its Hyde GUARDIAN Gold BWTS installation plans and retrofit applications while meeting international ballast water treatment regulations.

The Hyde GUARDIAN Gold ballast water treatment relies on an efficient two-step treatment system of ballast water to prevent the spread of invasive microorganisms. Designed for retrofits, Hyde GUARDIAN Gold is not only small and compact to suit shipowners’ requirements but also technically advanced meeting the strict BWT rules.

Moving ahead, the shipowners will have to abide by the International Convention for the Control and Management of Ships' Ballast Water and Sediments (BWMC), which the IMO (International Maritime Organization) adopted in 2004. According to the norms, ballast tanks of ships have to be 99.99% free of microbes and pathogens.

Calgon Carbon, one of the prominent pollution control companies along with CECO Environmental Corp. (CECE) and Donaldson Company, Inc. (DCI), ventured into the global market for ballast water treatment with its acquisition of Hyde Marine in 2010.

Calgon Carbon currently has a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold).

A better-ranked company in the pollution control industry is Sharps Compliance Corp. (SMED) with a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy).
