Broadcom Offers 100GbE Gearbox Physical Layer Transceiver

Zacks

Leading semiconductor solutions provider Broadcom Corporation (BRCM) recently announced the launch of its latest physical layer transceiver (PHY) BCM82792. The dual-port 100 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) gearbox is the highest performance, lowest power multi-rate PHY in the industry.

The BCM82792 PHY is fabricated in 28 nanometer (nm) complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) technology and consumes 30% less power than other similar products available in the market. It offers dual 100 Gigabit per second (Gbps) ports on a single gearbox chip, doubling the density of existing solutions.

Demand for higher bandwidths across data center, enterprise and core networks is increasing exponentially to seamlessly handle network traffic. This is facilitating network managers to transition line cards and systems from 10G/40G to 100G. As per a research firm, the 100G Ethernet market is expected to grow five-fold by 2016. With the new product line, Broadcom aims to deliver the highest level of performance and integration facilities, while significantly reducing power consumption.

Broadcom is well placed in the fast-growing wired and wireless communications markets, with other cutting-edge solutions for a growing number of connected users, who are demanding more content and bandwidth.

Based in Irvine, CA, Broadcom is engaged in designing and marketing semiconductor components of network voice, video and data traffic for various applications. The company continues to drive engineering excellence across a broad range of communication end markets to help its customers enhance device performance and overall efficiency.

Broadcom currently has a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy). Other stocks that look promising in the same industry include TriQuint Semiconductor, Inc (TQNT) carrying a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy), and DSP Group Inc. (DSPG) and Ikanos Communications, Inc. (IKAN) carrying a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy).
