DeVry Education Group (DV) and 1871, a Chicago-based entrepreneurial hub for digital startups, recently launched the EdTech Incubator in order to help startups develop new educational technologies for teaching and learning in higher education. DeVry is the exclusive sponsor of the EdTech Incubator.
Located in 1871’s new 25,000-square-foot expansion space, EdTech Incubator will support startups interested in food technology, financial technology, real-estate technology, the Internet of Things, woman-owned and veteran-owned technology businesses.
The startups, included in the EdTech Incubator, will create prototypes of new technologies according to various academic needs. They will be mentored and given feedback regarding their products. They will also attend business education workshops from DeVry. This will provide them the opportunity to become DeVry Group partners in the long term.
The startups will get access to educational heads at DeVry’s schools — American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine, Becker Professional Education, Carrington College, Chamberlain College of Nursing, DeVry Brasil, DeVry University, Ross University School of Medicine and Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine. This extensive network will serve as a testing ground for the new technologies offered by the startups.
DeVry intends to recruit two cohorts of three to five startups. Each of the groups will focus on specific domains or student problems. The selection process will be initiated this fall. The selection of startups will be based on their innovative approaches to teaching, learning and improving student outcomes.
