Air Products to Aid Processors in Particle Size Reduction

Zacks

Industrial gas giant, Air Products & Chemicals Inc. (APD) has created a new cryogenic grinding microsite that is aimed at handling particle size reduction challenges. Particle size reduction pose a challenge to processors in industries such as rubber, plastics, food, pharmaceuticals, and others, especially when working with heat-sensitive and tough-to-mill materials.

The microsite enables processors to optimize their overall operation. Moreover, the microsite provides technical information about Air Products' PolarFit Cryogenic Size Reduction Solutions which utilize liquid nitrogen to cool down feed material prior to and during milling. The microsite also has some videos that illustrate how exposing material to liquid nitrogen can help prevent melting or decomposition, or achieve embrittlement. This results in more even particle size distribution, higher production rates, improved product quality, and increased process safety.

Air Products’ wide array of offerings include turnkey cryogenic grinding systems, individual components to retrofit an existing process, liquid nitrogen supply, which is available in a number of delivery options to meet the requirements of small as well as large volume. The company also has trial facilities located in the U.S., Europe, and Asia, where customers can test their products to determine the potential benefits of using cryogenics in their grinding processes.

Air Products expects its strategic actions, including productivity improvement, better asset utilization, disciplined project execution and cost management initiatives to drive earnings in fiscal 2014. Moreover, it remains committed to maximizing its shareholder return. The company anticipates stronger momentum in the second half of the year.

Air Products currently carries a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold).

Other better-ranked companies in the chemicals space worth considering include Celanese Corporation (CE), Johnson Matthey Plc. (JMPLY) and LyondellBasell Industries NV (LYB). All of them hold a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy).
