Zacks

Industrial gas giant, Air Products and Chemicals Inc. (APD) will participate in the "Sustainable Manufacturing Forum" (SMF) and "Global Summit on Advanced Manufacturing" (GSAM) as part of Semicon West in San Francisco, Jul 7-10. The company will make presentations on materials recovery and reuse.

Air Products will focus on reducing costs, lowering supply chain risk and achieving sustainability goals which are vital for reuse and recovery. It will also present the benefits and challenges of recycling materials such as xenon, helium and hydrogen in the lighting and electronics industry.

Air Products’ name is also included in the panel on Next Generation Eco Fab where stakeholders throughout the semiconductor supply chain will discuss the critical sustainability issues the industry might face in the future. The availability of raw materials in the semiconductor manufacturing process has started to become limited due to cost constraints or supply restrictions, so the waste products from these processes may be economically recycled.

Air Products benefits from a diverse customer base, sustained pricing power and cost-reduction measures. New business deals and strategic investments are expected to support results in fiscal 2014. Moreover, the acquisition of a 67% stake in Chilean industrial gas company, Indura S.A., has ushered in substantial growth opportunity for Air Products.

Air Products is also keeping a tight control on expenses and undertaking work process improvement initiatives. Moreover, it remains committed to maximizing its shareholder return.

Air Products currently carries a Zacks Rank #4 (Sell).

Other companies in the chemical space worth considering include KMG Chemicals Inc. (KMG), Celanese Corporation (CE) and Ashland Inc. (ASH). While KMG Chemicals carries a Zacks Rank#1 (Strong Buy), Celanese and Ashland hold a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy).
