Specialty orthopaedic company, Wright Medical Group Inc. (WMGI), announced the commercial launch of its INFINITY Total Ankle Replacement (TAR) System across U.S. The system is available in the country through the company’s foot and ankle sales force. The INFINITY TAR System is also available on a limited basis in select countries outside the U.S. through the company’s direct sales organization.
Featuring a low-profile implant design and a straightforward surgical approach, INFINITY Total Ankle Replacement System supports the treatment of patients with end-stage ankle arthritis.
The ankle replacement system offers seamless integration with Wright Medical Group’s PROPHECY Pre-Operative Navigation Alignment Guides. Intended to be used as a patient-specific surgical instrumentation, the PROPHECY pre-operative navigation assists in the positioning of total ankle replacement components and guides the marking of bone before cutting. The integration supports faster and easier implantation, thus reducing surgical time and the need for fluoroscopy.
In addition, the INFINITY Total Ankle Replacement System features a distinctive talar resurfacing option for preservation of the talar bone and a tibia design that is compatible with the Wright Medical Group’s existing INBONE II System. This feature provides flexibility and allows clinicians to offer a true continuum of care to the total ankle replacement patients.
In the last reported quarter, Wright Medical Group posted strong constant currency growth in its foot and ankle business due to continued strength in ankle replacements. For the full year, the company anticipates foot and ankle growth in the range of 30–40% in both the U.S. and global markets.
Wright Medical Group is positive on the launch of its INFINITY Total Ankle Replacement System and believes that the system will fortify its leadership position and multi-year competitive lead in the total ankle replacement market. Furthermore, INFINITY will likely be an important catalyst in the ongoing market conversion from fusion procedures to total ankle replacement.
