The largest satellite radio company in the U.S. – SIRIUS XM Holdings Inc. (SIRI) aired the much awaited FIFA World Cup opening match between Brazil and Croatia yesterday.

All the FIFA World Cup 2014 matches will be broadcast in English on SiriusXM channel 84 via ESPN Radio. However, in situations when two matches are being played simultaneously, live commentary of the second game will be available on SiriusXM channel 85. SiriusXM listeners can also listen to match analyses and discussions by esteemed footballers like Tony Meola, John Harkes, Ray Hudson and others, on SiriusXM FC, channel 94, during the tournament.

SIRIUS XM will also feature additional shows called World Cup Kickoff before the start of each game, and will follow up with a special daily recap edition at the end of each day’s matches.

SIRIUS XM has ensured that it does not miss out on the most popular sporting extravaganzas that can help pep up its revenues in no time. Recently, SIRIUS XM announced its plans to air the 114th U.S. Open Golf Championship live from Jun 12, 2014 to Jun 15.

In fiscal 2013, the company had 1.66 million subscribers, higher than the projected 1.60 million customers.
