Buffalo Wild Wings Beefs Up Tabletop Technology

Zacks

One of the leading restaurateurs, Buffalo Wild Wings Inc. (BWLD) has undertaken a number of initiatives such as unit expansion, reimaging or closure of underperforming units and other growth initiatives to improve brand recognition. Most recently, Buffalo Wild Wings announced the introduction of next-generation tabletop technology at its outlets, which will not only boost its brands but will also enhance its footprint in the lucrative domestic market.

The initiative was launched in partnership with NTN Buzztime Inc. (NTN), whose Beond tablets will let Buffalo Wild Wings guests order food and drinks, play games, pay their bill and also request to change a channel. NTN Buzztime provides entertainment and marketing solutions to bars and restaurants in the United States and Canada.

The company intends to introduce this service at all its North American locations by the end of 2015. The technology is available on seven inch Samsung Galaxy slates. Apart from complimentary core games such as trivia and poker, these tablets also feature additional paid games and jukebox selections.

Digital menus are gaining precedence over traditional menu boards as hand-held devices enter service with the promise of communicating more effectively to customers and subsequently improving sales. Leading restaurateurs, like McDonald's Corp. (MCD) and The Wendy's Company (WEN) have witnessed an increase in sales with digital signage compared to traditional signage.

Buffalo Wild Wings remains better positioned than many of its peers on the back of menu innovation, better food presentation and operational efficiency. Besides improving sales, the digital technology would help this Zacks Rank #2 (Buy) company to reduce printing costs, paper trash, and the labor needed to manually change posters or menu items frequently.
