Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., the business arm of Qualcomm Inc. (QCOM), unveiled Snapdragon 610 and 615 processors. These products will significantly enhance the company’s flagship Snapdragon 600 chipset portfolio.

Snapdragon 615 chipset is the first octa-core processor powered with LTE and 64-bit facilities. On the other hand, quad-core Snapdragon 610 processor is well integrated with LTE and 64-bit features. Both are expected to be shipped from the fourth quarter of 2014.

The processors are powered with third-generation LTE modem while allowing Category 4 data rates for LTE-Broadcast and LTE Dual SIM Dual Active (DSDA) requirements. They also support multiple LTE frequencies and synchronize well with HSPA+, CDMA, and TD-SCDMA networks.

Two months back, Qualcomm had unveiled Snapdragon 410 LTE chipset, which will be available from the second half of 2014. Such chipsets will help OEMs to cut costs while offering enhanced graphics and extended battery life.

Recently, Qualcomm launched the world's first commercial 20 nanometer LTE advanced processor for vehicles called Gobi 9×30 platform. The Gobi 9×30 chipset– supported by 4G LTE platform – will allow broadband vehicle connectivity for advanced navigation, Wi-Fi hotspot, infotainment content and telematics services.

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 600 and 800 chipsets have already gained significant traction and is widely used in Google Inc.’s (GOOG) Android devices, Microsoft Corp.’s (MSFT) Windows phone and Apple Inc.’s (AAPL) iPhones. The company continues to dominate the mobile chipset market with a portfolio catering to all tiers of smartphones.

In the recently concluded first quarter of fiscal 2014, Qualcomm shipped nearly 213 million CDMA-based MSM chipsets, up 17% year over year. Revenue wise, the company holds the top spot with more than 60% of LTE market share in 2013. Higher adoption of smartphones and tablets coupled with aggressive rollouts of LTE networks will further drive the demand for LTE chipsets in the upcoming quarters.

Currently, Qualcomm carries a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold).
