Uniface Announces an Exciting New Chapter as an Independent Business, Headquartered in Amsterdam, The Netherlands

PR Newswire

AMSTERDAM, February 3, 2014 /PRNewswire/ —

Uniface, the software development company, today announced the completion of its acquisition by Marlin Equity Partners, a global investment firm with over $2.6 billion of capital under management. Marlin has a strong focus in the technology sector and a solid track record of driving growth in their portfolio companies, providing Uniface with significant operational expertise and financial resources.

This transaction positions Uniface to enter an exciting new chapter, continuing the execution of its long-term strategy and focusing on delivering its best-in-class development environment to customers as a private enterprise. The new Uniface organization consists of a global workforce that will be headquartered in its current building in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

“Our vision is to provide customers with the industry’s most productive development capabilities that enable technology to make a difference,” said Aad van Schetsen, President of Uniface. “Under our new private ownership structure, Uniface will be even more flexible and entrepreneurial, allowing it to do more of what it does best – serve our customers with a single-minded purpose and drive the innovations that will help them achieve their goals fast, particularly in the areas of mobile and cloud.”

“Bloor Research International welcomes this development,” says David Norfolk, Practice Leader, Development and Governance, for the leading IT research and analysis firm. “Not only has Uniface been operating successfully as a separate business unit for some time, I think that ‘high productivity,’ model-based development for hybrid Cloud is the way of the future; and I really appreciate the demonstrated ability, and desire, of Uniface to take its existing customers along with it into the future, rather than making them rewrite their working business solutions.”

Focus on serving customers

Uniface’s focus remains squarely on its customers and it will continue to deliver a best-in-class customer experience, which currently results in a license renewal rate of close to 100%. Its top priority is to ensure that customers’ needs are met and that the Uniface development environment continues to create value for organizations.

“I’m personally very positive about Uniface’s new status as an independent entity,” says John Gledhill, Group Director of Strategy & Innovation, Tribal, the number one provider of student management systems to Higher Education, Further Education and training providers in the UK. “Our leading student and course management solution, SITS:Vision, is written in Uniface and Uniface has always helped us to meet the commercial imperatives of our marketplace. The Uniface management team proactively called me following the acquisition announcement. I was particularly pleased to hear that they are now even better positioned to shape the forces of cloud and especially mobile.”

“Having spoken to many Uniface customers, I’ve always been impressed that, although the initial decision to use Uniface in many cases was a long time ago, development teams have continued to use it because of its flexibility and ease of use and because the Uniface team has continually improved the product through new releases,” says Al Hilwa, Program Director, Application Development Software, IDC. “With this kind of track record and the ability to accommodate mobile and cloud needs I would be very confident about Uniface’s future.”

“The technology landscape continues to evolve at a rapid rate and new arenas such as the Internet of Things present greater software application opportunities. End user expectations carry on being raised by experiences they know that are capable of being delivered. The Uniface platform has simplified the ability to expose new products and technologies without burdening the application developer with the need to become a technology domain expert. With Marlin Equity Partners’ strategic resources and solid record for driving growth in their portfolio, there is now opportunity for the level of investment that will further expand the Uniface roadmap and value proposition. The mix of competing technology architectures, delivery models and business and end user demands, highlight a future for which the Uniface platform is well positioned.” Bola Rotibi, Research Director, Creative Intellect.
