There is good news for fans across the globe as Lions Gate Entertainment Corp. (LGF) is poised to launch The Hunger Games: Catching Fire on DVD, Digital HD, Blu-ray Combo Pack, Pay-Per-View and Video on Demand on Mar 7. Catching Fire is the second installment of the hugely successful The Hunger Games franchise.
The Blu-ray/ DVD will contain a two-hour bonus material that includes behind-the-scenes footage, an audio commentary as well as deleted scenes from the movie. It will also contain a trailer of the eagerly awaited action flick “Divergent”. The DVD and Blu-ray combo pack are available for $29.95 and $39.99, respectively.
The Hunger Games is based on the incredibly successful novel of the same name by Suzanne Collins. The first movie in the trilogy was released on Mar 23, 2012 and the second was released on Nov 22, 2013. Made at a budget of nearly $130 million, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire has grossed nearly $420 million at the North American Box office and $850 million across the globe till date.
The third and final installment in the series, Mockingjay, will be filmed in two parts and are scheduled for 2014 and 2015 release.
The Hunger Games movies have proved to be a game changer for the Lions Gate Studio, which competes with media bellwethers like The Walt Disney Co. (DIS), Twenty-First Century Fox, Inc. (FOXA) and CBS Corp. (CBS) in a highly competitive movie business. The movies have had record openings and are currently listed among the highest grossing films of all time.
