DISH Enhances TV Viewing Option

DISH Network Corp. (DISH) – the second largest satellite TV operator in the U.S. after DIRECTV (DTV) – will be enhancing its TV viewing facilities by delivering multiple products and services to its subscribers by the middle of 2014.

Recently, DISH Network launched a Dish SuperJoey DVR device, which is capable of recording eight TV programs simultaneously and also supports voice control technique. Moreover, the company has also teamed up with LG Corp. and Sony Corpo. (SNE) to offer its popular WiFi DVR services, thereby allowing users to watch TV shows on any device from anywhere in the house through its a wireless Joey device.

There is an added advantage for Hopper device users. They can now watch their favorite programs on PlayStation 3 (PS3) and PS4 gaming consoles through Virtual Joey. Moreover, enhancement of the Dish Anywhere mobile app will further improve TV viewing facilities on tablets and smartphones.

At the end of the third quarter of 2013, DISH Network had approximately 14.049 million pay-TV subscribers and gained nearly 35,000 pay-TV subscribers. Moreover, average revenue per user (ARPU) was $81.05 against $76.99 in the year-ago quarter.

Hence, we believe that with the launch of such innovative products and the rollout of Apple Inc.’s (AAPL) free iPads to new customers, the company will certainly boost its ARPU and subscriber growth going forward. Moreover, 43% of its total subscribers are already using the Hopper DVR device, thereby acting as tailwinds for the company going forward.

Currently, DISH Network carries a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold).
