GM’s Chevrolet to Adopt OnStar 4G LTE

In the Consumer Electronics Show, General Motors Company (GM) announced that some vehicles under its Chevrolet brand will be featuring an optional OnStar 4G LTE connection. This connection, which runs on AT&T, Inc.’s (T) network, will provide high-speed data. With this smart technology, the automaker intends to offer more value and convenience to its customers.

The 2015 Chevrolet Corvette, Impala, Malibu and Volt will offer this technology initially. Later on, the Equinox, Silverado, Silverado HD, Spark and Spark EV will also feature this technology. General Motors will also launch the technology in Chevrolet Trax in the Canadian market.

The 4G LTE connection will turn the vehicle into a mobile hub using the built-in Wi-Fi hotspot in the vehicle. It will be providing customers with convenient access to apps and services that require a high-speed cellular or data connection. Many gadgets can simultaneously be operational in the same vehicle using AT&T’s high-speed wireless Internet.

The Chevrolet MyLink comes with a built-in AppShop in selected 2015 Chevrolet models in the U.S. and Canada. AppShop will benefit from the high-speed of the 4G LTE connection. Customers can view all available apps on the AppShop and download them.

General Motors simultaneously announced the 10th hardware generation of OnStar. The upgraded OnStar smartphone app helps customers to lock or unlock doors, trigger the horn and lights, and even remotely start a vehicle.

General Motors is one of the largest automobile producers in the world along with Ford Motor Co. (F) and Honda Motor Co., Ltd. (HMC). Currently, General Motors has a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold).
