Avis Car Rental, a unit of Avis Budget Group Inc. (CAR), has fused its express rental service “Avis Preferred” with Google Inc.’s (GOOG) latest mobile application, Google Wallet. The company has always been innovative and was the first in the vehicle rental industry to adapt to the recent tech era, wherein companies are exploring the online and mobile portals to increase sales.
Avis was the first car rental company to adopt mobile applications in 2012. It introduced mobile apps on all four platforms including Android, BlackBerry, iPhone and Microsoft Windows Phone.
Moreover, Avis was the first to provide personalized reservations via Triplt’s open technology platform in 2011. The company also has to its credit the title of the first car rental company to introduce an online booking medium for internet-enabled portable devices using an optimized version of the company website (Avis.com).
This latest move has made Avis the first car rental company to adopt the new Google app designed for Android and iPhone devices.
Google Wallet offers wallet-like facilities to users enabling them to keep their loyalty program information and promotional offers handy, while transferring cash across United States with ease.
Avis customers can now register for the Avis Preferred service through their mobile devices using the Google Wallet app, directly storing their new Avis Wizard number in the app. On the other hand, existing Avis Preferred users can make use of the new app by saving their wizard number in the app. The loading of this data, will enable Avis customers to receive news on promotions directly on their mobiles. Additionally, customers can recover their wizard information instantly for use.
The new app will help customers save time and provide ease in bookings. Additionally, it will facilitate Avis to efficiently market its products and services, ultimately boosting the company’s top line.
Earlier this week, the company unveiled expansion plans for its wholly owned subsidiary Zipcar Inc. The company expanded Zipcar’s car sharing services in the City of Sacramento, Calif., marking Zipcar’s 26th major metropolitan market.
