Zacks

Stantec Inc. (STN), a North American design firm, recently declared that it has acquired Halifax-based JDA MacKenzie Architects for an undisclosed amount. The acquisition is expected to strengthen Stantec’s architecture presence in Atlantic Canada.

JDA MacKenzie serves clients from various fields ranging from healthcare and public safety to commercial and industrial sectors. The firm has designed well-known projects in Nova Scotia such as the Yarmouth Justice Centre in Yarmouth, the new K-12 School for Wagmatcook First Nation and Sanofi’s (SNY) Pasteur Vaccination Challenge Unit, which is first of its kind in Canada. This architectural services firm was setup in 1982.

Over the years Stantec has boosted its architecture and engineering practice in the region through acquisitions of firms like QuadraTec in Feb 2011, PHB Architects in May 2012 and Architecture 2000, New Brunswick in Nov 2012.

Most recently in June, Stantec acquired the assets of California based IBE Consulting Engineers and Vancouver based interior design company AP/ID for an undisclosed amount. The acquisition of IBE will provide Stantec with the opportunity to enter the building engineering space in the North American market and exploit the western U.S. market as well.

Stantec works with public and private sector clients and offer professional consulting services in areas like planning, engineering, surveying and project economics for infrastructure and facilities projects.

Stantec currently carries a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold). Some other stocks in the consulting sector are Exponent Inc. (EXPO) and CoreLogic, Inc. (CLGX) carrying a Zacks Rank #1(Strong Buy).
