CIGNA Corp. (CI) has joined hands with Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., to develop health app called Samsung’s S Health, to provide enhanced service to its customers.
This health app is available on Samsung mobile phones. Cigna has signed a multi-year agreement with Samsung. Per the agreement both companies will work towards developing the features of Samsung’s S Health app.
The health application will be developed in a coordinated manner, with the first step being to convey information via health-related tips and articles. Gradually it is aimed to connect individuals with health care providers such as caregivers, doctors and hospitals.
While Samsung will provide user friendly features to operate the app., Cigna will provide the content. Cigna content is now in-built into Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and in select countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain, beginning in Oct 2013
In October, Cigna also announced that it is creating a market place with SocialWellth via which the patients can choose the most accurate health application to suit their needs from over 40,000 mobile health applications available.
The platform has been named as Go You Cigna Marketplace. Via this platform Cigna along with SocialWellth will certify those apps which are most effective and useful for patients. With this platform Cigna will help patients to easily identify and get hold of the app which is best for them.
These steps by Cigna reflect its constant endeavor to provide sophisticated technological service and round the clock information to its members about their health condition. Given the rapidly changing face of the health insurance industry, players providing enhanced services are seen to gain a competitive edge compared to other players in the market.
Cigna carries a Zacks Rank # 2 (Buy). Other players Kemper Corporation (KMPR), Old Republic International Corporation (ORI) both with Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy), and Financial Group Inc. (FFG) with Zacks Rank #2 (Buy) are worth considering.
