Calgon Carbon Corporation’s (CCC) wholly-owned unit Hyde Marine has entered into a partnership deal with UK.’s largest shipyard Cammell Laird to install chemical free Hyde GUARDIAN (HG) Ballast Water Treatment (BWTS) System for a broad spectrum of vessel types.

Cammell Laird was earlier chosen by the Royal Navy–Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) to install Hyde GUARDIAN systems ranging from 150m3/hr to 1000m3/hr onto five naval vessels. In June, a complex retrofit of a HG1000X onboard the RFA's Fast Fleet Tanker Wave Ruler was installed at Cammell Laird's Birkenhead yard.

Hyde Marine opted for Cammell Laird owing to the latter’s commitment to innovation in the maritime industry, experience in the engineering specialty company and its focus on meeting customers’ specific needs.

Efficient filtration and ultraviolet disinfection are used in the Hyde GUARDIAN BWTS process so that ships' ballast water can prevent the spread of invasive species from port to port.

The Hyde GUARDIAN BWTS has been tested and validated at one of the most challenging ballast water test facilities – the Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research (NIOZ).

The Hyde GUARDIAN BWTS is the first BWTS to be accepted in the U.S. Coast Guard’s Shipboard Technology Evaluation Program (STEP). It assists the progress of effective BWTS technologies for vessel owners searching for alternatives to ballast water exchange.

The Hyde GUARDIAN BWTS was among the first BWTS to earn Alternate Management System (AMS) approval from the United States Coast Guard (USCG) in Apr 2013. It has also got International Maritime Organization (IMO) Type Approval in Apr 2009.

Hyde Marine is a prominent producer and trainer in the U.S. regarding regulations, ballast water treatment technologies, installation experiences and challenges faced in the maritime industry.

Cammell Laird is the largest and most successful ship building, military ship refit, commercial ship repair and conversion company in the UK.

Calgon Carbon retains a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold).

Other companies in the pollution control industry worth considering are Progressive Waste Solutions Ltd. (BIN), Casella Waste Systems Inc. (CWST) and Sharps Compliance Corp (SMED). All of them hold a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy).
