Just a day after Ericsson (ERIC) launched Ericsson Radio Dot System; leading communications provider Verizon Communications Inc (VZ) said yesterday that it may collaborate with Ericsson to test the small cell radio solution.
Ericsson Radio Dot System is a compact indoor solution catering to the need for high-quality mobile broadband and voice services. It provides mobile broadband and voice services while addressing the challenging capacity demand for the mobile apps.
Through this innovative radio, Verizon expects to offer its subscribers a flexible and cost-effective solution, while allowing for simple deployments and upgrades. The present indoor solutions fail to cover the large public areas and enterprise buildings. Whereas, Ericsson’s radio solution can cover medium to large indoor locations as its small size and scalability can provide high quality network access at reduced costs. Ericsson’s Radio Dot System can leverage Verizon’s business by filling the gap and thereby giving it an edge over its peers.
The design for this system incorporates 14 patents and was developed after two years of Research & Development. This small cell radio is capable enough to integrate the macro mobile networks.
Headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden, Ericsson is a multinational company engaged in manufacturing and selling wireless infrastructure equipment to the telecom sector. It is a total network solutions provider, serving wireless and wireline operators, enterprises and consumers. Ericsson has also opened a new R&D centre in Ottawa, which will exhibit its technology development in Radio Access and global LTE along with serving as a Centre for Excellence for the company’s diverse network solutions.
Ericsson currently has a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold). Other companies in the industry worth considering at the moment are Ubiquiti Networks Inc. (UBNT) and DragonWave Inc. (DRWI). Ubiquiti Networks has a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy), while DragonWave Inc. carries a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy).
