Cummins Inc. (CMI) recently announced the introduction of the G Series platform, a global heavy-duty engine platform. It features an in-line six cylinder engine and will be available in 10.5 and 11.8 liter displacements. The G Series platform is expected to meet the global market demands and emission standards both on- and off-highway.

The G Series will be produced in Beijing Foton Cummins Engine Company from the first half of 2014. Cummins has used the latest technologies to provide exceptional performance and reduce costs for its customers. The company has used its expertise and market knowledge to design the engine platform for various markets across the world.

The initial G Series engines will run on diesel. It reduces a vehicle’s engineering requirements and reduces its weight; thus increasing the power-to-weight ratio. The G Series engine weighs 1900 pounds, or 862 kg. However, the light weight doesn’t compromise the structural strength of the engine.

In the on-highway markets, the G Series heavy duty engine platform will be launched as the Cummins ISG11 and Cummins ISG12. With power range from 290 to 512 horsepower (213 to 382 kW), the engine will abide by the emissions requirements in various countries across the globe while simultaneously providing fuel efficiency.

The engines abide by the Euro III, Euro IV, and China NS4 emission requirements. Cummins also said that it is also developing engines that will meet the requirements of Euro V, Euro VI and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

With all these features, Cummins ISG11 and ISG12 are the best solutions for heavy-duty trucks in long-haul, regional haul and vocational service, as well as buses, motor coaches, fire trucks, and recreational vehicles.

Cummins is a leading worldwide designer, manufacturer and distributor of diesel and natural gas engines, electric power generation systems, and engine-related components, fuel systems, controls and air handling systems. Currently, Cummins retains a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold).

Recently, Cummins’s 5.0L V8 Turbo Diesel engine found it was way into Nissan Motor Co. Ltd.’s (NSANY) next-generation full-size Titan pickup truck. Columbus Engine Plant (CEP) of Cummins is being developed to produce the said engine, which is being integrated into Titan as part of a partnership between Cummins and the automaker. The partnership promises mutual benefit. While Cummins is expanding its business, Nissan is expected to win a larger customer base.

Other stocks that are performing well in the industry include American Axle & Manufacturing Holdings Inc. (AXL) and Gentex Corp. (GNTX). Both are Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy) stocks.
