PPG Industries Inc. (PPG) announced that the construction of George W. Bush Presidential Center in Dallas, which is LEED Platinum certified by the U.S. Green Building Council, was done using its SOLARBAN 70XL STARPHIRE glass, CORAFLON Air-Dried System (ADS) coatings, PURE PERFORMANCE paint and SEAL GRIP priming products. All the four products are made in such a fashion that they can decrease energy consumption, protect the environment and provide other “green” benefits.
LEED is a national certification system developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) to promote the construction of energy and resource-efficient buildings that are environmentally healthy to live in. The George W. Bush Presidential Center is a 226,000-square-foot building and utilizes little energy coupled with high levels of daylighting. The center also integrates low volatile organic compound (VOC) emission to promote indoor air quality and regionally sourced materials.
Solarban 70XL glass is a revolutionary new Solar Control low-E glass that brilliantly combines the clear appearance of transparent, color-neutral glass with an unprecedented combination of solar control and visible light transmission. This ultra-clear, transparent aesthetic quality glass makes it the apt choice for both interior and exterior applications. It is has a green roof system that reduces the center’s heating and cooling demands.
Solarban 70XL Starphire glass is utilized in Freedom Hall, the building’s central orientation point. It permits daylight from the lantern to flood the core of the building and to appear as a soft-glowing beacon that is visible in Dallas at night.
The center’s replica Oval Office is marked by Seal Grip priming products and Pure Performance paint products. The Seal Grip priming products are excellent fast drying, interior, pigmented, stain killing, vinyl toluene primer/sealer that meet various VOC-compliance standards. Pure Performance is a zero-VOC premium latex interior paint.
Coraflon ADS coatings offer a brilliant, low-maintenance finish that is resistant to marring and abrasion while providing excellent gloss and color retention. The coating protects the center’s exterior metal trim and doors. Coraflon ADS also resists chalking and repels surface dirt to reduce cleaning cycles.
PPG Industries’ business is diversified, both in terms of products offered and geographical presence. It has a leading position in several paints and coatings end-markets.
