Eastman Chemical Offers Protection from UVA

Eastman Chemical Company (EMN) said that clear automotive window films, available under its LLumar window film product line, will protect car travelers from the harmful ultraviolet A (UVA) rays that penetrate through the car glass, causing skin cancer.

American Automobile Association projects that over 89% of people will travel in their cars this summer to beach or lake. Thus, Eastman’s LLumar window film is expected to find many takers.

Most SUVs, CUVs, and minivans are fitted with ordinary glass that only protects against harmful ultraviolet B (UVB) rays. However, they are still exposed to UVA rays that are more harmful than UVB rays as they penetrate through glass deep into the skin and can silently accelerate the aging process, cause wrinkles and even skin cancer. UVA rays also cause auto interiors to fade and crack as time passes. UVB rays, however, can immediately blister or burn the skin.

Dubbed as “sunblock for your car”, the transparent LLumar window film offers high-quality UV protection as it blocks up to 99% of hazardous rays. It provides daily sun protection and if applied once can serve for a long time. LLumar window films are both of clear and dark types. Women prefer the clear window films more than the dark ones.

A 2010 research conducted by the St. Louis University Medical School stated that 53% of skin cancers in the U.S. occur on the left or drivers’ side of the body. The researchers infer that the left-sided skin cancer may be due to the exposure to UVA radiation while driving. It is found that the cancer mostly affects the right side of the body for countries where drivers sit on the right side.

As per The Skin Cancer Foundation, 90% of all non-melanoma skin cancers are related with exposure to UV radiation. Also, each year more than 3.5 million new cases of skin cancer are found in the U.S. which exceeds the combined cases of breast, prostate, lung and colon cancers.

Installation of LLumar automotive window film is cost effective and the price ranges from $200-$500 depending on the size of the vehicle and level of performance opted for. It also reduces the interior temperature of a car by up to 30 degrees, thus lowering cooling costs and helping the car to burn less fuel and emit less CO2 gases. It can be professionally installed at more than 1,100 LLumar and FormulaOne stores across the U.S.

LLumar automotive window film is reliable, safe and productive as it has earned The Skin Cancer Foundation’s Seal of Recommendation. The Skin Cancer Foundation grants its Seal of Recommendation to products that meets its specific criteria for effective UV sun protection.
