Atmel Corporation’s (ATML) recently-launched controllers, mXT2952T and mXT1664T, were selected by ASUSTeK Computer Inc (ASUUY) to power the touchscreens of its new tablets and Ultrabooks.

The mXT2952T is a single chip capacitive touchscreen controller for 15.6" screens of notebooks and ultrabooks such as Asus’ new Zenbook Infinity. The mXT1664T is a premier touch controller solution for 12.5" displays. With an adaptive sensing architecture, Atmel's T-Series single chip controllers facilitate users with superior touch performance and noise immunity with a longer battery life. Additionally, Atmel's T-Series supports the new maXStylus that provides consumers an accurate handwriting experience on their touch screens.

Atmel is increasingly focusing on its core microcontroller business as it aims to target high-growth businesses. The use of these touchscreen controllers delivers high performance, lowers the power consumption and is more effective than other available variants in the market.

Fast-growing touch-sensing technology is one of the major growth drivers for Atmel's microcontroller business. The phenomenal growth of microcontrollers is led by continued rapid use of smartphones and tablets. The new product line of Atmel is an initiative to capitalize on this growing market.

Based in San Jose, CA, Atmel designs, develops, manufactures and sells integrated circuit (IC) products. These products include microcontrollers, advanced logic, mixed-signal, non-volatile memory and radio frequency (RF) components. Atmel produces non-volatile memory that stores information after power is turned off and combines this with microcontrollers, digital signal processors and other logic to meet the needs of its customers.

Atmel currently has a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy). Other stocks that look promising and are worth considering in the industry are FormFactor Inc (FORM) and Anadigics, Inc (ANAD), each carrying a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy).
