Bell Canada – a wholly owned subsidiary of BCE Inc. (BCE) – unveiled Fibe TV Wireless Receiver in an attempt to boost the television (TV) viewing experience. Through this device, customers will be able to watch up to 5 extra TVs anywhere within the house minus the trouble of additional wiring.
The Wireless Receiver Transmitter works by connecting to a customer's Home Networking modem and the main Whole Home PVR. Subsequently, the full Fibe TV is made available in as many as 5 other TVs by interlinking one or more compact Wireless Receivers. Customers, both new and existing, can get the Fibe TV Wireless Receivers for a $7 rent per month or at a $199 price. They will also receive a Fibe Remote.
Termed as the next generation of television – Fibe TV – offers novel features to customers, giving it competitive edge over the traditional cable TV operators. Designed with best on-screen guide, picture-in-picture and extensive search options, the Fibe TV has applications such as Facebook, Twitter and TSN Xtra. These devices are gaining popularity owing to its HD On Demand content and the largest HD recording capacity that extends up to 100 hours.
During the first quarter of 2013, Fibe TV added 47,463 new customers, bringing the total number of subscribers to 295,761, up 147% from the comparable quarter last year. Available in Montreal, Quebec City and Toronto, BCE introduced Fibe TV in numerous locations including Aurora, Barrie, Hamilton, Markham, Milton, Newmarket, Ottawa, Richmond Hill, Stoney Creek and Vaughan in Ontario in 2013. Currently covering 3 million families, Fibe TV will reach a million more households by the year end.
