Exar Corporation (EXAR), a leading supplier of mixed-signal components, recently introduced a new product family XR3080-88X, which uses RS-485/RS-422 transceivers. The new product is specifically designed to be used in insensitive industrial environments and has a special feature which enhances fault and voltage protection.

The XR3080-88X family consists of nine devices and supports data rates within 20Mbps duplex configurations. The new product is expected to benefit devices that are used in harsh industrial applications as it offers extended cable length, better noise margin and some other additional safety measures.

Apart from its utility in industrial applications, the XR3080-88X family can also be used in various electrical devices like AC and DC motor drives, remote utility metering, building automation, and security systems. The new product is also ideal for high voltage RS-485 applications as it consumes unusually low power.

Exar believes that its new product will impress customers and also assure them that systems can be operated in a hassle-free manner, even outside the clean lab environment. Exar has already started marketing its new product and have made XR3080-88X available in standard 8 NSOIC and 14 NSOIC packages.

Exar designs and manufactures analog and mixed-signal integrated circuits for communication, video and imaging products. Connectivity and power management is one of the four product portfolios of Exar. The others product portfolios are communications products, network security and storage optimization solutions.

Exar currently carries a Zacks Rank #4 (Sell). Some other stocks within the industry worth mentioning include Integrated Device Technology, Inc. (IDTI), OmniVision Technologies, Inc. (OVTI), each carrying Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy) and FormFactor Inc. (FORM), with a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy).
