Leading semiconductor solutions provider, Broadcom Corp (BRCM) recently announced the expansion of its wireless internet connectivity for embedded devices (WICED) product family with the introduction of its new WICED Smart Development Kit.
This new technology provides access to a client device with an integrated Bluetooth Smart software stack and application profiles, offering original equipment manufacturers (OEM) a cost-effective wireless solution. The WICED platform simplifies the implementation of Wi-Fi connectivity in a wide range of consumer devices, making it easier for the users. This further enables the OEMs to provide products for ‘Internet of Things’.
Broadcom has added the BCM20732 Bluetooth Smart system-on-a-chip (SoC) to its existing WICED platform to facilitate OEMs to flawlessly deliver better connectivity to battery-operated devices for sports and fitness, health and wellness, security and automation. Additionally, with the use of WICED devices, users can control or monitor information and other health metrics from their smartphones. By 2020, the number of connected 'things' is expected to reach 50 billion, accelerated by the continuous growth of embedded products to mobile devices.

The new product line is an initiative in this endeavor. This new technology is in vogue by Avnet, Inc. (AVT) customers.
