Sprint Nextel Corp (S), the third-largest wireless carrier in the U.S., announced that the new version of HTC One smartphone will be available on its network from Apr 19, 2013. Sprint will start taking pre-orders of the phone from Apr 5, 2013 while rival AT&T Inc. (T), who is also launching the phone on Apr 19, will start taking pre order from Apr 4.
Recently, Taiwanese handset manufacturer HTC Corporation launched its updated HTC One smartphone, which runs on Google Inc.’s (GOOG) Android platform. HTC One possesses a 4.7 inch HD touchscreen, HD display, 1.7 GHz snapdragon processor and is preloaded with Near Field Communications technology (NFC). The most unique feature of the phone is the 4MP ultrapixel rear camera, which offers better low-light picture performances.
32GB version of HTC One will be available on all of Sprint’s distribution channels including the tele sales and web sales windows. The range will be available in silver and black and will cost around $199.99, when purchased with a 2-year service agreement.
A customer, who purchases the latest smartphone from Sprint, can enjoy an unlimited web experience with Sprint’s Everything Data plan, which provides indefinite data download, messaging and calling within the carrier’s network at $79.99 per month. HTC One with Sprint’s unlimited data plan will be attractive to customers as it is $20 cheaper than Verizon’sunlimited text, voice and 2GB data plan.
We believe that Sprint has to fend off tough competition from other Android-based smartphones like Samsung’s Galaxy S4 and Sony’s Xperia Z, in its attempt to popularize the latest device from HTC. However, Sprint has denied an offer to Research In Motion's (BBRY) latest touchscreen gadget Z10 from its portfolio, which might provide some impetus to HTC One sales from its network.
