Air Products & Chemicals Inc.’s (APD) CryoEase microbulk solutions are providing reliable, uninterrupted supply of oxygen to North Carolina Specialty Hospital (NCSH). NCSH is benefiting from the advantages of Air Products’ microbulk solutions over the conventional cylinder or dewar supply.
Microbulk is a new and modern concept for smaller volume users where gas is supplied by filling on-site compared to the traditional method of swapping full for empty cylinders and dewars. When the hospital received oxygen in dewars, it had to monitor supply levels daily and change-out dewars three times a week.
However, in case of Air Products’ microbulk solutions, NCSH has done away with the time and labor required for dewar handling as well as the supply interruption that occurs during dewar change-outs.
NCSH executes about 1,100 surgical procedures a month and uses liquid oxygen for both its operating and recovery rooms. Air Products has also reduced NCSH's risk of running out of oxygen by installing its Telalert telemetry system to examine the hospital's gas consumption so that oxygen can be automatically delivered when inventory approaches a predetermined reorder level.
NCSH has also approached and provided the optimum gas supply option for its recently-opened Wound Healing & Hyperbaric Center in Durham.
Air Products serves customers across a wide range of industries from food and beverage, health and personal care to energy, transportation and semiconductors. It also supplies a unique portfolio of atmospheric gases, process and specialty gases, performance materials, equipment and services.
Last month, Air Products announced that it has licensed its adsorption-based monomer recovery technology to Cryo Technologies, a supplier of custom engineered process equipment.
Air Products’ technology has been developed in collaboration with the Department of Energy (DOE) under the Industrial Technologies program and this program helps in recovering 100% hydrocarbons and nitrogen, leading to a nitrogen product, which is highly pure.
Air Products currently holds a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold).
