Agilent’s Latest ADS 2012 (A) (NATI) (RFMD) (TRNS)

Zacks

Agilent Technologies Inc. (A) launched the latest version of its flagship Advanced Design System (ADS) 2012 software for its radio frequency (RF) and microwave EDA platforms.

Agilent’s ADS is an automatic electronic design software system used by designers of RF, microwave and high-speed digital applications products in the making of mobile phones, pagers, wireless networks, satellite communications, navigation and radar systems and high-speed data links.

The latest version of ADS comes with lots of improvement like enhanced user interface, and dockable windows that will help the users to quickly access frequently used dialog boxes. New functions such as new component search and net navigator make it easier to work with complex designs. Further, another new archive/un-archive utility makes the sharing of the designs easier for the designers in the workplace.

MMIC designers, signal integrity engineers, RFIC and RF & Microwave board designers and RF system-in-package & RF module designers use the ADS software.

Simultaneously, RF Micro Devices Inc. (RFMD) has updated their process design kits (PDK) with the latest ADS.

Of course Agilent does have some formidable competition from companies like National Instruments Corporation (NATI) and Transcat Inc. (TRNS) among others.

According to a research by MarketsandMarkets, the RF components (RFC) market is expected to reach $17.12 billion by 2017 at an estimated CAGR (2012- 2017) of 19.4%. Agilent is well positioned to leverage the increasing opportunity going forward.

There is ample room for growth if Agilent plays to its strengths and remains committed to its customers by providing world class, affordable test and measurement solutions. Agilent’s testing systems have proved to be effective in the past, enabling it to build a strong position for itself. The electronic measurement segment has been improving over the last few quarters as Agilent has been launching new products.

Agilent’s revenue in the third quarter was flat sequentially and up 1.9% year over year, short of management’s expectations of a 2-3% sequential increase ($1.77 billion to $1.79 billion).

The Electronic Measurement segment contributed 49.0% of revenue. The weakness was on the computing/semiconductor sides of the business. The Life Sciences segment generated 23.0% of revenue, down 1.0% sequentially and up 2.1% from last year. The Chemical Analysis segment generated 22.0% of third quarter revenue, down 8.8% sequentially and 7.0% year over year. The sequential decline was largely because of weakness in food testing.

Currently, Agilent Technologies has a Zacks #5 Rank, implying a short-term Strong Sell rating.
