Tucson’s 2nd Saturdays August Event to Be Held on Scott Avenue One Last Time

PR Newswire

TUCSON, Ariz., Aug. 2, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — With construction for the new modern streetcar in Downtown Tucson nearly complete, 2nd Saturdays will hold its favorite urban event on Scott Avenue one last time, August 11th, before moving back to Congress Street in September.

Scott Avenue will be closed from Congress to Jackson Street, just south of Broadway, for the event. The Cricket Kids’ area will again take over the Providence parking lot on Jackson Street and will feature the “G” rated Disney movie, “UP” , free of charge. The movie begins at 7:30pm. The Scott Avenue stage will be on the north end of Scott at Congress Street. Scott Avenue and Jackson Street will be lined with vendors, food trucks, street performers and outdoor musicians.

2nd Saturdays’ Scott Avenue KIIM/KHIT Stage will again host local, masterful musicians performing an array of styles for all generations, from the young to the young-at-heart! Kicking off the event at 6:30 p.m. is Annon & The Late Show, fronted by Tucson (via Indiana and DePauw University) guitarist Roderick Annon Warfield, playing Latin-style R&B in the vein of Carlos Santana. The seductive Flamenco of Tesoro follows at 7:45 p.m. The group was recognized this year by Tucson Lifestyle magazine’s Best of the City as one of three “Best Local Entertainers” and is in the running for Tucson Weekly’s 2012 TAMMIES Tucson Area Music Awards for the Album of the Year with its “Live at Hotel Congress” release. At 9:15 p.m., a cadre of top Tucson musicians comprising The Vexmen hit the stage, with upbeat ska – set to get the crowd jumping and jiving! In between acts, Belly Dance Tucson showcases a captivating set of alluring Middle Eastern entertainment.
