Leading General Merchandise Retailer Shopko Names New Chief Marketing Officer

PR Newswire

GREEN BAY, Wis., July 26, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — Shopko announced today that retail marketing executive Nancy Altman has joined the company as Senior Vice President, Chief Marketing Officer.

Altman brings extensive experience to her role at Shopko, where she will be responsible for clearly communicating the Shopko brand to the company’s current and new customers and implementing cohesive marketing initiatives across multiple formats, including brick and mortar stores and the Company’s e-commerce site. Altman will also be responsible for overseeing public relations efforts and the Shopko Foundation with the goal of uniting all of Shopko’s branding elements.

Altman joins Shopko as it is in the process of converting more than 160 Pamida stores to its new Shopko Hometown format as part of a merger with Pamida that was finalized earlier this year. Shopko Hometown combines Shopko’s strong reputation of health services and customer service with a broad and dynamic offering of strong national brands and high-value private label brands of apparel, home furnishings, toys, consumer electronics, seasonal items, and lawn and garden products – all in well laid out store formats that range from 15,000 to 35,000-square-feet. As a result of the merger, Shopko is now a $3 billion retailer with nearly 350 stores in 22 states.

“Following our recent merger with Pamida, strategic marketing will be a vital element in our effort to seamlessly fold the two brands into one and clearly communicate the Shopko Hometown difference to current and new customers,” said Paul Jones, President, Chairman & CEO of Shopko. “Nancy brings high-level marketing experience, a proven track record of success and a fresh perspective to our team that will be invaluable as we work toward our vision to become America’s hometown retailer through expansion of our Shopko Hometown retail concept.”

Prior to joining Shopko, Altman gained extensive retail marketing, advertising and brand strategy experience working in high level marketing positions for a number of large national chains. Altman served as Vice President of Marketing for Ulta Beauty where she played a key role in the strategy to take the company public. During her tenure, the company grew from 140 to over 300 stores and increased sales from $700M to $1B in five years. She developed the brand across all customer-related marketing elements by initiating marketing strategies which drove business growth and top-line sales and built brand equity. At Ulta, Altman was responsible for all national and local advertising, e-commerce, visual marketing, special events and public relations. She drove brand management, promotion development and product launches, and integrated multi-channel marketing to increase sales and establish Ulta as a national brand.

Altman was Senior Vice President of Marketing at Toronto-based Premier Salons where she successfully developed and implemented marketing strategies to drive sales at more than 700 salons and retail stores across United States and Canada. Previously, she served as Senior Vice President of Marketing for Younkers, a former division of Saks Department Store Group.

Altman earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota. She serves on the Board of Directors for the Retail Advertising and Marketing Association (RAMA), a division of the National Retail Federation.
