LGS Innovations Receives Award For CIO-SP3 Contract

LGS to Provide Market-Leading Healthcare and IT Products and Services to Federal Agencies through Government-Wide Acquisition Contract

PR Newswire

HERNDON, Va., June 20, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — LGS Innovations™, an independent subsidiary of Alcatel-Lucent (NYSE: ALU and Euronext Paris), today announced that it has received an award for the Chief Information Officer—Solutions and Partners 3 (CIO-SP3) contract to provide a wide range of IT services and solutions to Federal Government agencies.

The contract vehicle, under the direction of the NIH’s Information Technology Acquisition and Assessment Center (NITAAC) and with a ceiling of $20 billion, is intended to provide for health, health science, and biomedical-related IT services to meet scientific, health, administrative, operational, managerial, and information management requirements. Because government healthcare systems are increasingly integrated within a broader IT architecture, the CIO-SP3 contract also allows for general IT purchases across all agencies. CIO-SP3 gives Federal Government agencies a mechanism for quick ordering of needed IT solutions and services for the best value, and offers government agencies an unprecedented breadth of IT in support of the Federal Enterprise Architecture, the Federal Health Architecture, and the DoD Enterprise Architecture. It can be used to meet the requirements of agencies with Data Center Consolidation, Cloud Computing, Health IT, Mobility, and Cybersecurity needs.

“The CIO-SP3 award is an extremely important achievement for LGS, giving us another effective mechanism for delivering networking, communications, and IT services to Federal agencies,” said Kevin Kelly, LGS Innovations Chief Operating Officer. “Not only can we deliver our full range of cutting-edge healthcare solutions, but the program allows for much broader IT services to both civilian and defense organizations. We will now be able to better serve our government customers world-wide with best-in-class technology.”

Offering the Global Reach and Resources of Alcatel-Lucent

LGS brings the resources of the entire Alcatel-Lucent family of companies to support the CIO-SP3 mission, including a unique perspective to the NIH, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), and other Federal agencies. Alcatel-Lucent is the first truly global communications solutions provider with the most complete end-to-end portfolio of solutions and services in the industry, with particular expertise in networking and communications solutions for the medical and health care fields. The Alcatel-Lucent Corporation notably includes Bell Labs, the world’s preeminent corporate research organization whose world-renowned scientists achieve near and long-term innovations by drawing on deep experience in science and technology, including more than 50 health IT-related patents that have been granted or are pending.

Alcatel-Lucent recently teamed with the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center to develop a telemedicine platform and suite of applications, including enabling real-time clinical encounters in a virtual “exam room.” By using a Web portal, patients have access to both scheduled and emergency care from any location at any time through a variety of mobile devices using real-time video and audio communication among multiple participants in multiple locations.

“The CIO-SP3 contract enables us to provide industry-leading healthcare applications that improve the patient experience, boost the efficiency of caregivers and employees, and ensure secure and open communications,” said Gus S. Vasilakis, Vice President, North America Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise. “Today’s technology advances in healthcare change the conversation between payers and providers, and between patients and providers, and ultimately improves care delivery. Giving healthcare providers increased ability to access data via mobile devices lowers costs and increases quality of care.”

Marrying Healthcare Applications with IT Products and Services

For example, Alcatel-Lucent’s work with networks has enabled the creation of medical tools like the digital surgical suite and the digital stethoscope. But Alcatel-Lucent’s expertise goes well beyond the network, giving it a unique understanding of both IT resources and the demands that applications and systems require of those IT resources. Its involvement with global standards organizations and its leadership position as a manufacturer of telecommunications and IT products provides LGS with a comprehensive perspective on networking, especially with respect to keeping the NIH’s Enterprise Architecture vision aligned with developing technology and evolving standards.

The CIO-SP3 contract vehicle will also allow LGS to deliver products and services that assist government agencies with their mobility voice, data, and video needs.

“We believe that mobility is a huge challenge for government agencies, and this contract gives those agencies an effective way to quickly find the best solutions,” said Dan Bigbie, Vice President, Business Development and Sales. “Delivering security and privacy into the mobile environment is essential for quick decision-making in the field. Mobile healthcare is one area which will benefit dramatically from faster and more secure access to patient records and on-demand consults from healthcare professionals.”
