Cvent Acquires CrowdCompass to Offer Mobile Apps for Business Events

Mobile Apps Accelerate Popularity of Events and Greatly Improve Attendee Experience

PR Newswire

MCLEAN, Va., June 19, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — Cvent, the world’s largest cloud-based provider of event management solutions, today announced the acquisition of CrowdCompass, a leader in creating mobile applications for business and association events. The purchase of the company will enable Cvent to offer a cutting-edge solution that will accelerate the popularity of meetings and events, and enhance communications between attendees via social media. Cvent and CrowdCompass will offer a first-of-its-kind solution that combines industry leading event management tools and the ability for planners to easily create iPhone, iPad, Android, and Blackberry apps for their business events.

“Cvent’s success is predicated on delivering best-of-breed technology solutions to our event industry clients and partners. This acquisition is an important step to ensuring we continue to lead the industry in the adoption of mobile technologies,” said Reggie Aggarwal, Founder and CEO of Cvent. “We selected CrowdCompass because it was clear that they are a leading developer of native mobile apps for business and association events. With experience building hundreds of apps for a wide variety of mid-to large-sized public and private events, the addition of CrowdCompass gives us unparalleled expertise in creating mobile apps for events. We have offered mobile friendly event web sites for some time, but the CrowdCompass product takes the mobile experience to the next level.”

CrowdCompass specializes in creating native mobile applications for all major mobile devices, including the iPhone, iPad, Android and BlackBerry. The company has built 435 apps, which received a total of over 500,000 downloads by event attendees in the last year.

Founded by Dave Shanley, Brian Felder and Tom Kingsley, CrowdCompass specializes in building mobile applications for business and association events, such as conferences, tradeshows and large-scale meetings. The company has completed apps for numerous corporations, including E*Trade, Daimler, and Intuit; several meetings industry organizations, like The Meetings Technology Expo; and various associations, such as the American Bar Association, Association of General Contractors and American Society of Anesthesiologists, to name a few.

“Becoming part of Cvent will allow CrowdCompass to operate on a greater scale than it ever has before,” said Tom Kingsley, Founder and CEO of CrowdCompass. “Our technologies and expertise will be a great fit with Cvent’s unmatched reputation and client base; we’re looking forward to all the services we will be able to develop under the Cvent umbrella.”

“The CrowdCompass app demonstrates the excellence and innovation that attendees have come to expect from the Mental Health and Addictions Conference,” said Courtney Young, Digital and Social Media Specialist at the National Council for Community Behavioral Healthcare. “We had over 3,000 healthcare professionals and administrators in attendance, and the response to the app was overwhelming, with 80% of them downloading it. By offering the CrowdCompass app, we showed our attendees that we are listening to their demands and care deeply about their conference experience.”

The acquisition of CrowdCompass comes on the heels of Cvent’s purchase of Seed Labs, a leading provider of apps for consumer events, such as festivals, concerts and sporting events.
