PITTSBURGH, Sept. 20, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — Liberty Tire Recycling, the premier provider of tire recycling services in North America, has become the first and only company to achieve GREENGUARD Synthetic Turf Components Certification from the GREENGUARD Environmental Institute, an unbiased third-party organization that strives to improve public health and quality of life through programs that reduce chemical exposure and improve indoor air quality. All products certified by GREENGUARD are rigorously tested to ensure they meet a series of strict chemical emissions standards based on established criteria from key public health agencies.

“Liberty Tire Recycling is excited to be manufacturing the first and only synthetic turf infill product to receive GREENGUARD Synthetic Turf Components Certification,” said Jeffrey Kendall, CEO of Liberty Tire Recycling. “This recognition gives credence to Liberty Tire Recycling’s dedication to the health of its customers and preservation of the environment. We have always made safety our top priority, and the GREENGUARD Synthetic Turf Components Certification verifies that our infill products are environmentally preferable and sustainable.”

Synthetic turf infill manufactured at the following Liberty Tire Recycling production plants has received GREENGUARD Synthetic Turf Components Certification: Calhoun, Georgia; Braddock, Pennsylvania; Salt Lake City, Utah; Des Moines, Iowa; Port St. Lucie, Florida; and Brunner, Ontario, Canada.

The GREENGUARD Synthetic Turf Components Certification ensures that synthetic turf components meet stringent, third-party requirements for chemical emissions, lead content, and heavy metal migration. The certification is based, in part, on the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act, European toy safety standard criteria for heavy metals, and the California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment’s Chronic Reference Exposure Levels for volatile organic compounds.

“As a supplier of GREENGUARD Synthetic Turf Certified Components, Liberty Tire Recycling is providing a more environmentally preferable product to their customers,” said Dr. Marilyn Black, founder of the GREENGUARD Environmental Institute. “By using these surfaces manufactured by Liberty Tire Recycling, customers and end users can have peace of mind knowing that their risk of chemical and heavy metal exposure has been reduced significantly.”
