Yesterday, Humana Inc. (HUM) announced its plans of adding 200 new full-time employees at the company’s National Medicare service center in Louisville. A majority of the new employees will be working at Humana’s Medicare call center as customer care specialists and front-line supervisors.
Additionally, Humana has more than 100 openings in Information Technology as well as various other job opportunities in Louisville, which will be revealed over the coming weeks. The new additions are expected to take the head count in Louisville to 10,800 by 2011-end, up from 9,200 in the beginning of this year. Currently, the company has a national employee strength of more than 34,000.
At a time when job opportunities in the US are limited, Humana is rapidly increasing its employee base. In August 2011, the company had announced its plan to employ 300 new registered nurses, social workers and community health educators in its Humana Cares division by the end of fall. Humana is actively holding weekly job fairs at St. Petersburg till September-end for the same.
Prior to this, in July 2011, Humana had announced its plan to hire 200 full-time employees, including customer care specialists and front-line supervisors, at its national Medicare service operations center in Tampa Bay. The company has announced more than 1000 job openings in Tampa Bay this year.
The new additions are required to support Humana’s growing Medicare business. The company specializes in providing high-quality personalized care. If the growth in business volume is not matched by sufficient increase in the employee base, the quality of service can decline. Hence, with the rapid growth of Humana’s business, we can expect more announcements of workforce expansion by the company in the near future.
Humana carries a Zacks #1 Rank, which translates into a Strong Buy rating for the short-term. The company primarily competes with CIGNA Corporation (CI), Aetna Inc. (AET) and UnitedHealth Group Inc. (UNH).
On Wednesday, the shares of Humana closed at $77.82, up 1.59%, on the New York Stock Exchange.
