General Dynamics Gets Defense Deal (BA) (GD) (LMT)

General Dynamics Information Technology, a business unit of General Dynamics Corp. (GD), has received a five-year contract from the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) for manufacturing technologies for Remotely Piloted Vehicles. The contract is a multiple-award contract with a total potential value of $45 million for all awardees.

Under the contract, General Dynamics will be responsible for formulating new ways to improve supply chain and manufacturing techniques for all aspects of Remotely Piloted Vehicles and Aircraft (RPVs/RPA), including airborne and ground components. Through these new design methods the company aims to reduce costs and improve the efficiency and availability of remotely piloted vehicles for the U.S. Air Force.

Additionally, General Dynamics will also provide program management, systems engineering and research and development services. General Dynamics plans to carry out work under the AFRL contract at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio.

Based in Falls Church, Virginia, General Dynamics has a long, proven history with the Air Force Research Laboratory. It currently provides the AFRL with laboratory management and full life-cycle research and development activities for the Air Vehicles, Materials & Manufacturing and Sensors Directorates.

General Dynamics engages in mission-critical information systems and technologies; land and expeditionary combat vehicles, armaments and munitions; shipbuilding and marine systems; and business aviation.

Headquartered at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, the AFRL is a scientific research organization dedicated to the discovery, development and integration of affordable aerospace warfighting technologies. The AFRL specializes in performing research experiments in conjunction with universities and contractors.
