ABB Ltd. (ABB) received an order, to provide painting robots, from the BMW Group for the execution of their new painting process. The robots will be delivered over a span of next few years and will provide complete functional painting systems. ABB was selected in 2008 by BMW as its partner for industrial robots.
ABB's latest generation of IRB 5500-type painting robots will be deployed in most of the equipment. These robots have exceptional performance capabilities and a space-saving configuration. They will be used to paint the automated base and the interior and exterior of car bodies. Apart from these, plastic parts will also be treated and painted by the robots.
With the help of the robots, efficiency of manufacturing system is attained, which enables sustainable production of high quality products. Competitive advantage is attained through them and customer specification is also met. More than 190,000 robots have been installed by ABB worldwide.
