Wright to Demo at the AOFAS (JNJ) (SNN) (SYK) (WMGI) (ZMH)

International orthopedic devices company Wright Medical (WMGI) will showcase its foot and ankle products at the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (“AOFAS”) meet, slated to be held in Keystone, Colorado, between July 13 and 16.

Besides providing an overview of its product innovations to foot and ankle surgeons, the Tennessee-based company will hold, at the AOFAS, surgical training sessions on its mobile medical education unit.

Key products to be featured at Wright Medical’s booth include the PROPHECY INBONE total ankle system, the first pre-operative navigation system for total ankle arthroplasty (surgical repair of joint). The device is yet to be approved for marketing in the U.S.

Moreover, the company will exhibit its new INBONE II total ankle replacement system which was launched in May 2011. The INBONE II system leverages the success of the company’s legacy INBONE ankle system which was introduced in 2006. It is the only marketed ankle replacement system in the U.S. providing surgeons multiple implant options with different articular geometry (plays key role in stability and integrity of the ankle joint).

Additional products to be showcased at the AOFAS meet are the PRO-TOE VO hammertoe fixation system (for repairing the lesser toes following correction of a hammertoe deformity) and the ORTHOLOC ankle fracture system (an ankle fracture solution for a vast range of fracture types). Wright Medical will also display its FUSIONFLEX bone matrix, a flexible bone repair scaffold designed for orthopedic bone grafting applications.

Other products from Wright Medical’s market-leading foot and ankle offerings to be featured includes the CHARLOTTE reconstructive implants, the DARCO locked plating systems and the ORTHOLOC polyaxial locking plating systems.

Wright Medical is a global orthopedic devices company specializing in the development and marketing of reconstructive joint devices and bio-orthopedic materials. It is a leader in the U.S. and German markets for foot and ankle surgical products.

We feel, future revenue growth will be supported by new product (including internally developed and those from acquisitions) launches. Moreover, new deals in extremities, Wright Medical’s fastest growing segment, are expected to bolster growth in this business.

Our views are moderated by intense competition from larger players, pricing pressure, and a still soft U.S. orthopedic reconstruction market. Wright Medical competes with much larger players such as Zimmer Holdings (ZMH), Stryker (SYK), Johnson & Johnson’s (JNJ) De Puy and Smith & Nephew (SNN). We are currently Neutral on the stock, backed by a short-term Zacks #3 Rank (Hold).
