A leading manufacturer of solar products JA Solar Holdings Co. Ltd (JASO) developed new high efficiency solar cells and modules. The new cells are based on the company's proprietary SECIUM and Maple technology and will generate maximum power from a limited area.
The new solar SECIUM and Maple cells use the company's high-efficiency solar cell processing technology, which allows them to generate 10% more power than the conventional polycrystalline solar cells. The Mono-crystalline SECIUM cells can achieve conversion efficiency of up to 19.2%, while poly-crystalline Maple cells can generate up to 18.2%.
The new solar modules SECIUM 260W Photovoltaics (PV) product consists of sixty 6-inch mono-crystalline SECIUM cells, the SECIUM 300W PV module is a 72-cell format while the Maple 250W module utilizes the company's newly developed Maple poly-crystalline solar cell in a 60-cell format. All these products have high powered solar cells that are cost effective as they help to generate more power from a smaller area.
JA Solar is one of the most cost efficient solar producers in the world, with a geographically diverse customer base as well as silicon wafer supply agreements in place to feed its production. Recently, the company entered into a two-year strategic partnership with Jabil Circuit Inc. (JBL), which will allow the company to improve on its cost structure and expand its reach globally.
At the first quarter earnings call the company guided Solar cell and module shipments to exceed 400MW for the second quarter of 2011. For fiscal 2011, shipments were projected to be 2.2 GW, reflecting a growth of 50% from the 2010 level.
JA Solar presently retains a short-term Zacks #4 Rank (short-term Sell rating) that corresponds with our long-term Underperform recommendation on the stock. The company competes with Canadian Solar Inc. (CSIQ).
