KT Corp. to Sell Juniper SW (revised) (CSCO) (JNPR)

ZacksJuniper Networks Inc. (JNPR), one of the leading providers of networking infrastructure products and services, recently inked an agreement with KT Corp., a South Korean telecom service provider. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Formerly known as Korean Telecom, KT Corp. is an integrated wired/wireless telecommunication service provider. Under the terms of the deal, KT will promote and sell Juniper’s Junos Pulse software and the Junos Pulse Mobile Security Suite to its service holders. Through this service, KT intends to secure the mobile devices of corporate clients.

Launched in June 2010, Junos Pulse software is specially designed to maintain the same standard of security across a network, even when some of the connected devices, such as cell phones, or other mobile Internet devices are outside the control of a network administrator.

The Junos Pulse Mobile Security Suite, launched in October 2010, is a part of the Junos Pulse platform and provides secure connectivity for all mobile devices.

With the help of Junos pulse and the related software kit, KT will serve its customers with anti-virus, anti-spyware, anti-spam, loss and theft protection, and monitoring and control services, which are built particularly for smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices. Furthermore, the customers will be aided with a data backup and restoring facility. In a nutshell, these services could restrict KT’s customers from shifting loyalty to some other service providers.

With rapid growth in the adoption of new technologies across mobile devices, creation of malicious codes has become commonplace, increasing security threats for all. Hence, we expect Juniper to acquire major service providers in the wireless industry as clients.

We remain encouraged by the rapid deployment of Juniper’s networking products and services by organizations and government bodies. We also appreciate Juniper’s continuous efforts to make strategic acquisitions, which enrich its product portfolio.

However, stiff competition from market leader Cisco Systems Inc. (CSCO), as well as Juniper’s European exposure are likely to weigh on the shares.

Currently, Juniper has a Zacks #3 Rank, implying a short-term Hold recommendation.
