BMC Software Inc. (BMC) recently announced that its Mainframe Service Management solutions have been deployed by German insurance company R+V Insurance.
Financial details of the deal were not divulged.
As per the terms of the deal, BMC Software will deploy its Recovery Management for DB2 solutions in R+V Insurance’s computing systems. The solution automates backup and disaster recovery tasks and helps database administrators (DBAs) plan a backup and recovery strategy. One can also estimate the time needed to recover data, analyze the past disaster recovery results and reduce the time required for backup or copy jobs.
An efficient recovery strategy ensures that problems do not irrevocably damage or destroy data. Mainframe Service Management will reduce the alteration or recovery time taken by DBAs for DB2 processes. Moreover, with the automation of backup and recovery tasks, the insurance company can simultaneously reduce the number of DBAs allocated for a DB2 job. This way, the company will be able to focus less on information technology infrastructure and more on its core businesses.
This is not the first time that BMC Software’s development and support teams and R+V Insurance’s technicians have collaborated. R+V Insurance has been using BMC Software’s mainframe solutions for over 15 years. The latest agreement further strengthens business ties between the two.
In April, another German insurance company, HUK-COBURG, reportedly deployed BMC Software’s CATALOG MANAGER for DB2 solutions, which facilitated the insurer’s database administrative work, making it faster and more efficient. BMC Software also shares a long-standing relationship with the insurance company.
BMC Software began its journey as a mainframe software vendor, but subsequently got engaged in developing software to monitor, manage and automate distributed and mainframe systems. We believe that the demand for its mainframe solutions could drive growth at its Mainframe Service Management unit in the coming quarters.
Apart from this, we remain encouraged by BMC Software’s impressive fourth quarter results, attributable to strong customer demand for its Service Automation, SaaS and cloud solutions.
Growing competition from big industry players such as IBM (IBM), Hewlett-Packard Company (HPQ), EMC Corp. (EMC) and CA Inc. (CA) remains a concern.
Currently, BMC Software has a Zacks #3 Rank, indicating a short-term Hold recommendation.
