Road to One Billion Campaign Will Increase Environmental Contributions Made by Tire Companies and Put More High Performance Sustainable Tires on the Road

PR Newswire

ATLANTA, June 20, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — Lehigh Technologies, a manufacturer of sustainable, micronized rubber powders, announced today that it has hit a major milestone of having 100 million tires manufactured containing its products. To build on this foundation, the company is launching its Road to One Billion Campaign. The campaign’s goal is to put one billion tires on the road that have been manufactured using Lehigh’s sustainable micronized rubber material. Lehigh hopes this campaign catalyzes an industry-wide effort to increase the environmental contributions of the industry through the use of innovative, sustainable materials, such as micronized rubber powders. This campaign also aligns with targets aimed at reducing the consumption of oil in the production of new tires.

“Not only has the industry made great strides in reducing rolling resistance and improved fuel efficiency, but they have also done an incredible job of reducing the number of end-of-life tires that are landfilled by developing beneficial uses for this highly engineered material. Lehigh wants to build on this progress by increasing the potential for use of sustainable, micronized rubber powder in tires to replace high cost, non-renewable virgin materials. Our goal for the Road to One Billion Campaign is to work with tire manufacturers that are committed to sustainable tire manufacturing, many of whom have helped us reach the 100MM milestone, to further reduce the carbon footprint of a tire. This will require us to advance our technology to enable broader use of micronized rubber powders. We encourage the industry to join us in putting one billion tires on the road that have been manufactured with alternative materials,” said Dr. Alan Barton, chief executive officer of Lehigh Technologies.

Lehigh will be spreading the word about the Road to One Billion campaign via marketing efforts to tire manufacturers, tire dealers, industry experts and consumers alike.
