Kellogg Goes Healthier: Launches New Breakfast Options

Kellogg Company K recently introduced a number of products, which include new versions of popular breakfast options as well as cereals. The company has introduced more than 40 items which are already available at retailers nationwide.

The company introduced New KelloggsUS Origins cereal, granola and muesli, CheezIt Extra Toasty crackers, SpecialKUS and Nutri-Grain multi-stage breakfast that offer more tasty and healthy options.

The Kellogg’s Origins line of cereals offers simply prepared breakfast items made from traditional grains like oats, barley, spelt, quinoa, and wheat and include a variety of fruits, nuts and seeds like apricots, apples, cranberries, walnuts, almonds, cashews and pumpkin seeds.

The company has also brought new products like Kellogg's Frosted Flakes Energy Clusters cereal offering protein with every serving, and the Eggo Thick and Fluffy Blueberry Cobbler waffles with the delicious taste of homemade waffle in a microwavable portable pouch.

Kellog has also brought two new products under the The Morning Star Farms brand to cater to those who want to reduce the amount of meat in their diet. The Keebler Elves line of food offers several new recipes and cookies.

These products target the growing number of health conscious consumers who prefer the convenience of nutritious packaged food given their busy schedule, particularly for breakfast. Through these options, the leading producer of cereals particularly capitalizes on the increasing awareness about the importance of breakfast as the first meal of the day.

There is a growing demand for healthy packaged food which contains all the nutritional values without compromising on taste. Also, items that undergo minimum processing and use natural ingredients are gaining popularity.

However, competitive pressure from breakfast alternatives including yogurt, eggs, bread and peanut butter is hurting category growth and taking a toll on the demand for cereals. Moreover, changing consumer views on health and wellness, and shift in consumer attitude from dieting to health and wellness have hurt sales of Kellogg’s weight management cereal brands, like Special K and Kashi.

Kellogg has a Zacks Rank #4 (Sell). Some better-ranked food stocks are Lancaster Colony Corporation LANC, Cal-Maine Foods, Inc. CALM and McCormick & Company, Incorporated MKC. All these stocks carry a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy).
