Zacks

Delphi Automotive PLC DLPH recorded a 4% rise in adjusted earnings to $1.21 per share in the first quarter of 2015 from $1.16 in the prior-year quarter. Earnings also beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $1.19 per share.

Including special items consisting of restructuring charges, Delphi Automotive reported net income of $288 million or 99 cents per share in first-quarter 2015, down from $310 million or $1.01 per share a year ago.

Revenues declined 3% to $3.8 billion and missed the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $3.86 billion. The year-over-year decline was due to the unfavorable impact of currency fluctuations, partially offset by an increase in volume in Asia and North America.

Excluding the impact of currency exchange and commodity movements, revenues increased 6% year over year. The upside was led by a performance improvement of 15% in Asia, 7% in North America and 2% in Europe, partially offset by a 16% decline in South America.

Adjusted operating income increased 1.9% to $472 million from $463 million in the first quarter of 2014. The rise can be attributed to better performance in Asia and North America, together with benefits from ongoing cost-reduction initiatives. Operating margin came in at 12.4% versus 11.9% a year ago.
