Quality Systems Unveils Health Care Platform, Buys Gennius

Zacks

Mirth, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Quality Systems, Inc. QSII, recently announced the launch of a new population health management suite – Mirth Care Enterprise, which will attempt to fill the gap between population health management and individual patient care.

Mirth Care Enterprise is aimed at helping healthcare organizations manage patient populations and at the same time, reduce costs without compromising on the results. Mirth has designed this vendor-neutral, cloud-based chronic disease and care management platform, which engages patients and generates population health outcomes using varied significant data.

Observations based on the data will help providers distinguish between high-risk and low-risk patients, which, in turn, will help address specific health care needs and eradicate unnecessary costs. This will reduce costs along the entire population health care spectrum.

Notably, to date, the takeover of Mirth (in 2013) has been quite accretive for Quality Systems, playing a vital role in expanding the company’s product pipeline. The new population health management suite will further complement the impressive portfolio.

In a separate development, Quality Systems recently announced the acquisition of healthcare data analytics provider – Gennius.

Gennius is a healthcare analytics company that integrates data from 20 EMR systems, 7 payers, and continuity of care documents (CCDs). The company’s platform is known for facilitating quality analysis of integrated patient, administrative, and financial data across medical settings and time periods.

The acquisition is expected to significantly expand Quality Systems’ current enterprise analytics and business intelligence abilities. The engineering capabilities of Gennius will combine with Mirth’s premier open source connectivity tools and powerful visualization console.

We feel the recent acquisition will help the company attract new clients, going forward. However, Quality Systems has a knack for frequent acquisitions. Over the last three years, the company has completed six acquisitions which include the likes of Mirth, Poseidon, Matrix, ViaTrack, CQI and IntraNexus. While acquisitions may prove to be accretive in the long run, they can also tend to weigh on the company’s organic growth.

Zacks Rank
