Briggs & Stratton Launches New Starter Technology

Zacks

In an attempt to make starting lawn mowers easier, Briggs & Stratton Corporation (BGG) has introduced its easiest electric starting engine ever – InStart. The company combined the power of lithium-ion battery technology with its gasoline powered engines to offer the electric starting engine to homeowners.

Unlike traditional lead acid batteries, lithium-ion battery technology is lightweight, mobile and requires no tools. The batteries also last much longer than usual batteries found on mowers and reduce the environmental impact compared to lead acid batteries.

InStart, combined with Briggs & Stratton's ReadyStart Starting System, offers quick and reliable charging. With the rapid recharge, ten minutes of charging can provide up to 20 starts and it takes only one hour to fully charge the lithium-ion battery, which provides up to 75 starts.

Additionally, InStart does not require priming, choking or any rope to pull. The revolutionary InStart battery also provides enough power to meet the needs of most homeowners for an entire mowing season. InStart Engines are available exclusively at Cub Cadet independent dealers and Costco Wholesale.

Improved sales mix of large engines used in lawn and garden equipment and higher service parts sales, resulted in a 2% year-over-year rise in Briggs & Stratton's Engines Segment’s sales in second-quarter fiscal 2015.

Briggs & Stratton will benefit from new product launches and expects modest industry growth in the near term. The company will introduce several new products, including the industry's only engine that does not require an oil change. Moreover, its continuous focus on margin growth, geographical expansion through strategic acquisitions and cost cutting will aid growth in the near term.

Currently, Briggs & Stratton has a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy).

Investors interested in the same industry may also consider Abengoa SA (ABGB), Belden Inc. (BDC) and Berry Plastics Group, Inc. (BERY). All these stocks carry the same rank as Briggs & Stratton.
