Twitter Advances Account Sharing with TweetDeck

Zacks

Twitter, Inc. (TWTR) unveiled its latest addition to its TweetDeck platform — TweetDeck Teams, a feature that enables sharing of Twitter accounts without having to share passwords.

Twitter had acquired TweetDeck in May 2011. Since then the tool has been immensely useful for its users who have benefitted from improved real-time tracking, organizing and engagement levels. TweetDeck not only allows users to manage multiple accounts but also provides the option to customize their timelines, lists, activities etc. to suit their needs.

TweetDeck Teams, at present available for Web, Chrome and Windows users, can be a boon to people who need to share team accounts with many people. A TweetDeck Team user will not only have the flexibility to share access to a Twitter account, but can also withdraw access from team members without having to change passwords.

Existing Twitter and TweetDeck users can also switch to TweetDeck Teams and add members by following some easy steps. The whole process is fairly simple on the part of team members as well. All they have to do is accept the request sent via email and get started.

The main accountholder can assign two roles, admin and contributor, to the TweetDeck Team members. Admins will have the authority to use the account to view and manage the team members. However, as the admins will be logging in from their own account, they will not have the authority to change the details or password of the TweetDeck account.

On the other hand, the contributors can use the accounts for sending tweets, building lists and following any account. They too don’t have the authority to change the details or password of the TweetDeck account.

It is noteworthy that Twitter isn’t the first to have a feature like this. In fact, TweetDeck Teams is quite similar to Facebook’s (FB) page sharing feature. Social media management companies like HootSuite and SocialFlow also have such features.

A key benefit of this type of a tool is that it can check social media hacks to some extent. A lot of official accounts need to be handled by multiple people and such accounts are more vulnerable. However, TweetDeck Teams with no requirement to share passwords and with multiple-step authentication verification is expected to enhance the security of such high-profile accounts going forward.

This in turn should attract influencers and big brands to the platform.

Currently, Twitter has a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold). Better-ranked stocks that can be considered include ClickSoftware Technologies Ltd. (CKSW) and j2 Global, Inc. (JCOM), both sporting a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy).
