Healthcare information technology solutions provider, Allscripts Healthcare Solutions, Inc. (MDRX), recently announced the distribution of a new electronic prior authorization (ePA) solution named Allscripts eAuth.
The ePA solution transacts an electronic prior authorization for Express Scripts (ESRX) patients, substituting the expensive, time-consuming, and labor-intensive process of manual prior authorization.
Allscripts eAuth is unified with the physician electronic prescription workflow. Users will be prompted to administer prior authorization electronically with Express Scripts, at the time of writing a prescription. This will subsequently result in rapid prior authorization decisions.
The digital approach has been designed to effectively decrease the need for follow-up phone calls, faxes, and other manual procedures related to retrospective pre-authorization. The newly deployed Allscripts eAuth is expected to be integrated into all Allscripts EHR platforms over the coming months.
This comes as an interesting development for Allscripts, more so because the electronic prescribing systems market is currently estimated to grow at a good pace. Allscripts ePrescribe, one of the widely used electronic prescribing applications in the U.S., helps to improve the efficiency of the overall prescription process.

It should also aid the company to compete against the likes of Quality Systems (QSII) and Merge Healthcare (MRGE).
