Stillwater Mining (SWC) Crumbles: Stock Falls by 7% – Tale of the Tape

ZacksStillwater Mining Co. (SWC) saw a big move last session, as the company’s shares fell nearly 7% on the day. The move came on pretty good volume too with far more shares changing hands than in a normal session. The stock gained over 5% from Jul 18 to Jul 30, but suffered a sharp decline yesterday of about 7%.

The company engaged in the development, extraction, processing, smelting and refining of platinum group metals has seen a mixed track record, when it comes to current year estimate revisions with 1 decrease over the past few weeks, and the consensus for earnings hasn’t been in a trend either. This recent price action is discouraging, so make sure to keep a close watch of this firm in the near future, and especially on earnings estimates following the recent slump.

SWC currently has a Zacks Rank #4 (Sell).

Some better-ranked stocks in the same sector include Impala Platinum Holdings Ltd. (IMPUY), U.S. Silica Holdings, Inc. (SLCA) and Dominion Diamond Corporation (DDC). While Impala Platinum and U.S. Silica Holdings carry a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy), Dominion Diamond sports a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy).
