Lanci is back! Kitco News speaks with trading veteran Vince Lanci about high-frequency trading (HFT) and how he thinks this practice affects the gold market. Lanci says that although HFT is not all bad, there are several participants that use ‘predatory behavior’ to disrupt the marketplace. “You will hear many proponents of HFT [say]…it adds liquidity,” Lanci says. “That’s not true, it is false liquidity.” Lanci adds that the ‘true liquidity providers’ are leaving the business as a result and that’s how you can really ruin a market. Lanci also talks about “spoofing” and shares his personal encounter with this illegal HFT tactic.
