athenahealth, Inc. ATHN recently announced that its patient access services have been selected by the University of Alabama at Birmingham, which houses the UAB Health System, to enhance care coordination in the ambulatory care space.
Per the agreement, UAB Medicine will deploy athenaCoordinator Enterprise patient access services to care transitions and patient referrals at the Kirklin Clinic of UAB Hospital in Birmingham, AL.
With the help of this support service, which is slated to go live in July, UAB Medicine will ensure that each patient transitions between different care settings with the right information, accessible at the right time.
athenaCoordinator Enterprise patient access services will ensure that patients are pre-certified and their insurance and referral information are in place, before they arrive for an appointment. This, in turn, will help minimize the probability of billing errors and redundant reimbursement follow up post-care. The service will also expedite the check-in process and help increase the interaction time between physicians and patients.
We feel the partnership stands in good stead for athenahealth as it will increase the visibility of the company’s services and thereby help achieve greater market traction. This should eventually translate into better top-line growth at the company.
Notably, athenahealth was recently recognized as the market leader in electronic health record (EHR) usability by KLAS Research. This industry ranking is part of the research firm’s latest report – 2015 KLAS Usability Report. The company topped the lists in three out of the five examined EMR module categories, namely, ePrescribing, Problem Lists and Clinical Decision Support.
